Late yesterday, beach project engineers and government officials informed us that the beach in front of Phase II at The Royal Sands will reopen on December 23, not December 21 as we were originally told. It will take several more days for the beach in front of Phase I to reopen due to the continued presence of the dredging pipeline and the passage of heavy vehicles. In the interests of safety, project coordinators stipulate that the stretch of shoreline where work is underway must always be cordoned off. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience that this may cause.

will the beach be open in front of the Royal Islander by 1-16-10 thru 1-23-10, that’s when I arrive, will all the heavy equipment be gone by then also?

Thank you for the update…..I realize that the project must be safe and clear before the chairs and palapas can be put out. Do you know if the Resorts up towards the north end of the strip do have thiers in place now seeing that the beach has been restored there many weeks ago? And when do you think the Royal, that was completed last week will have thiers, and tsay the Marriott’s? We are arriving the last week of January. Thanks again for your quick and thoughful responses.

Dear Steve: Thank you for writing to Royal Resorts News. Beach chairs and huts cannot be reinstalled on the beaches until the resorts get authorization from restoration project engineers. The reason we were given for this is that pipes and heavy machinery may still be operating in the vicinity of the resort even though work has been completed there and has moved further south and that chairs and palapas would be a potential obstruction. I don’t think that I talked about palapas and beach chairs at The Royal, perhaps you saw it somewhere else. I hope that this helps.

Dear Tweb: Thank you for writing to Royal Resorts News. Work is on schedule as far as I know. When the beach project engineers and authorities gave Royal Resorts Management the dates, they were at pains to stress that there may be a variation of one or two days in the calendar for weather and other possible complications. Work should be completed at The Royal Caribbean by the time you arrive but in the event that it is still ongoing, the beaches at The Royal Mayan and The Royal Sands will be ready for you to enjoy. I hope this helps and that you have a wonderful vacation.

Dear Barbara: Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the beach project. I’m sure that you will be delighted to hear that the big pool at The Royal Haciendas is now better than ever; it opened right on schedule and has been upgraded. The most popular enhancement was the platform along the sides for sun beds.

WHY DO THE RESORTS NOT HAVE THE BEACH CHAIRS & HUTS IN PLACE AS SOON AS THE BEACH IS RESTORED? YOU MENTIONED THAT THE ROYAL WAS GRANTED SPECIAL PERMISSION THE OTHER DAY.

Any update on the Beach restoration project? Will it be completed at the Carribean by 1/15 as scheduled. We arrive on 1/16 so am hoping for a beautiful beach to enjoy!

I think it’s just wonderful that this project is progressing so quickly. Last year I stayed and the Sands and Haciendas. The big pool at the Haciendas was closed, a disapointment, but the future will be better for it. This is how I feel about the sand replenishment. It’s not just about this year, but the future years at the Royals too.

Dear Donna: Thank you for writing to Royal Resorts News. I don’t think that they would have been pumping sand on to the beach at The Royal Caribbean yet, it is scheduled to take place around January 8. Would he have been referring to work currently taking place at hotels between The Royal Sands and The Royal Mayan? Happy holidays.

Dear Steve: I will check up on this for you. Happy holidays.

recently 12-21-09 someone staying at the Royal Caribbean said they were pumping sand on the beach that day. Is he mistaken?

We arrive on Saturday december 26, what can we expect for the beach access. we are staying in phase 2 at the sands. will the palapas be installed by then?
#15 by jgreen on December 21st, 2009
Dear Steve: According to the timetable, it appears that sand pumping will take place in front of your resort between December 26 and 28, give or take a couple of days but it doesn’t say when work will be completed. You really do need to contact your resort for more information. I hope that this helps.

Dear Al: The answer to your question is YES! The beach in front of Phase II at The Royal Sands reopened this afternoon.
#17 by jgreen on December 21st, 2009
Dear TWeb: Thank you for writing to Royal Resorts News. According to the timetable supplied by beach project engineers and government officials, sand pumping is expected to begin on January 8 at The Royal Caribbean and Jan 9 at The Royal Islander. There may be a delay of 1 to 2 days. Once sand has been pumped onto the beach, heavy vehicles move in to level it. The beach in front of The Royal Mayan-Caribbean and Islander should be completed by January 15 (night). I hope that this helps. Happy Holidays!

Dear Al: The beach in front of Phase II at The Royal Sands will reopen this afternoon but the Phase I beach will remain closed due to the continued presence of the pipes and heavy vehicles. Beach project engineers have yet to inform us exactly when the pipes will be removed but it will be a matter of days, not weeks. As soon as we receive more information from the authorities we will update you.

I received an email from a Cancun resident today. He said that the dredger has relocated south of the Royal Sands but the pipes will remain on the beach at the Sands for “several weeks!!” That can’t be correct. Did he mean several DAYS? I can’t reach him by email, so maybe you can clarify.
