Right on schedule, beach restoration began at The Royal Sands on December 16 and by midday Thursday, had already reached the point between Phase II and I. Sand is pumped on shore from the dredger via a system of rubber pipes floating in the water and huge metal pipes– each one measuring 12 meters long – on the shore. The sand spurts out of the pipe at high speed and gradually dries out. During this time it attracts the attention of hungry gulls and other sea birds on the lookout for tiny shrimp and other marine life sucked up by the dredger. Diggers and tractors then move in to level the beach and when this has been completed the pipes the will be removed.
Work is going on round the clock and is advancing according to plan. We would like to share the most recent photos and a short video taken by Royal Channel at 2 p.m. today. Please share them with your friends and stay posted for more news.

Absolutely beautiful! We were at the Royal Sands the first week in December and spent the week watching the ship dredging up sand and now to see the results is truly amazing. We became members of the Royal Resorts while there and can not wait until our return.

Dear Peter: According to the timetable supplied by beach project engineers and government officials, sand pumping is expected to begin at The Royal Mayan on January 6, Jan 8 at The Royal Caribbean and Jan 9 at The Royal Islander. There may be a delay of 1 to 2 days. Once sand has been pumped onto the beach, heavy vehicles move in to level it. The beach in front of The Royal Mayan-Caribbean and Islander should be completed by January 15 (night). I hope that this helps. Happy Holidays!

Thanks for the pictures and especially the video feed! For all of us that call this our home away from home, it is great to get up to the minute updates on the beach restoration project.
We look forward to our 5+/- weeks next Fall!

Thanks so very much for putting the pictures up. Please keep them coming. I was there weeks 48-49, and it was fascinating to see the two big ships and the little ones setting up for their work in front of the Royal Sands. I was there in ‘05 when the last project to restore the beach took place. It is an amazing undertaking. How different the Phase II beach looks. It will be wonderful to be there again next year. Again, very many thanks for keeping the information coming. Though only for two weeks, this is our home each year.
